Mary Opeyemi Akintunde backs up for her husband, gospel musician Elijah Akintunde.

While many may feel being a husband and wife team may be easy and a rollercoaster, Opeyemi says the position has only taught her to be patient, prayerful and to be accommodating always.

Opeyemi, from Esa-Oke in Osun State, however, further admits that the position has also helped her to understand her husband better.

On how she copes with the homefront going by the busy schedule of their music ministry, Opeyemi simply quotes the scripture which says, “I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me.”

However, she added that the support of her mother-in-law has been immense in this regard.

“To the glory of God, my children are also very supportive by being obedient,” she says.

With the fact that there is no endeavours without challenges, Opeyemi says that God placed her in the ministry for a purpose, “but again, patience is the key.”

This then leads her to her advice for up and coming gospel artistes, “Wait on the Lord; it pays to wait on God.

“You must also invent your pattern, keep your integrity firm, don’t be used negatively and don’t ever lose hope because we are worshipping the same God who has been since the beginning of the earth is still the same.”

She, however, calls on older gospel singers to assist the up and coming music ministers.

“It is important to lay good foundations for them to follow so that they won’t derail in their calling,” Opeyemi said.
