The organizers of the reality gospel show, Gospel Icon Africa, made known their intention to redefine gospel music in Africa.
It was announced during the week, by the Managing Director of GIA, Esther Oladeji, who stated that
“The vision is to enable up-and-coming artists to have a platform to shine their light, and to raise a new breed of gospel artists. We are here today to announce that something great is about to happen”.
“The aim of the show is to please God, and because we desire to do His will, He has led us through the pattern and structure He wants us to follow.”
She also contributed that the show would be in phases, starting with registration and auditions. According to her, the successful contestants will be invited to the live show after uploading their audition videos.
Also the Chief Executive Director of GIA, Bamidele Martins, in his comment account that the show is for the empowerment of both up-and-coming and established gospel artists. He said, “GIA is non-denominational. So long as you are a child of God, you are welcome. The selection from the top 10 will be based on the opinions of viewers.”
